IMATS 2013

22 Jun

SATURDAY

I forgot how busy the IMATS gets!

I was a little disappointed that there were no paint stall this year, i wanted to update my body painting kit! However at least there were lots of body painters displaying their work to give me inspiration! My favourite shop hands down has to be Bdellium tools. I am in love with their brushes – I bought 14 of them.  I really think they should ask me to work for them because I could then show people how awesome they are and every else will want to buy them too!

I also bought a new face painting brush kit from Royal & Langnickel – for festivals and other mainly paint based jobs, as I am sick of finding glitter in my “normal” makeup. I’m pretty damn excited to use it and glad to be downsizing; less cleaning of brushes (the most boring thing about the job..) and I only use a few brushes usually anyway! I got some new super dense Kabukis for body paints too; I love them. I also got some dedicated brushes for white greasepaint… if anyone dares to mix these up at festivals they will be in trouble!

Initially i had been most excited about the talks and demonstrations, however i wasn’t grabbed by them. I would have liked to have heard more about the technical processes, products and tools rather than about the artists themselves. Yolanda Bartram was good though, I definitely got a few ideas about how to do a body paint – something I really want to do in the near future – she was also really helpful in advising me about stencil work.

SUNDAY

This section is actually being written in August, so I am sad to say i have forgotten most of what I would have loved to share with you. The second day consisted mainly f buying items for the Happy slap Boutique kits and yet more Bdellium tools brushes for myself. I wasn’t able to tick everything off my list but i have many new items to play with.

The highlight of my Sunday was assisting Grace McComisky in her demonstration for Temptu Airbrush, Here is a cheeky little picture form their Twitter feed:

We also got given some free goodies from Dana at Ben Nye – I love their products! they have already been put to use this year particularly in my fashion work.

I look forward to attending next year, however I would hopefully like to work with a stall so I can get more experience speaking to people about the products and services companies can offer.

Painting Fun with Steph!

14 Dec

Hey, just a quick update. Here is a picture I have just received of some work I did with Steph quite a while ago. It’s not my best work but it was fun to experiment, it has certainly given me a few ideas for the future, especially experimenting with the positive and negative. For such detailed work in the future I need to find a better way of repetitive marking and perhaps plan out my pattern/idea before starting it.

This piece was inspired by a beautiful piece by Yolanda Bartram – see below. It’s a lot more difficult to do than it looks….
