Shoot: Victorian England vs. Día de Muertos

25 Apr

Today I shot with Photographer Martin Beaumont and Lunar Rising (Aka Abi Wright).

The shoot was to be based on Victorian England and  Día de Muertos. Martin had wanted to add the  Día de Muertos element to his portfolio and I was keen on getting some body painting practice so was happy with this option. Martin had found a brilliant location, where we would be able to shoot it old Victoria Carriages… so we thought we would try add a little twist to the Day of the Dead theme.

Our original plans were big, however with such little time for body-painting and shooting, we found we were not able to fully carry out our ideas – so this is a project to be developed. I’m looking forward to the next step.

Special thanks to Sally Stone at West Yorkshire Playhouse Costumer Department for lending us the clothes! 🙂

Happy Slap Boutique – Product Play!

8 Apr

Recently I have begun to deal with testing, purchasing and stocking of the products we shall be using for Happy Slap Boutique; helping to arrange our kits for events and festivals.

Today I have been collating a list of our stock and what needs to be found and bought, some of which we will be able to pick up at the IMATS next month! This time we shall be taking a list (along with our personal lists), trying to get a distracted as little as possible by the many beautiful temptations. Following this we begun to compile our magic list.

I am currently stood in the kitchen, melting down an array of beautiful lipsticks into our newly bought (from UMAe!) Makeup Forever clear empty palettes; having just got back from London town. We collected some of our favourite colours from a variety of great brands, including MAC, Illamasqua and Gosh. I was going to take a picture of my lipstick covered arm for you but it has since been wiped away! We have a few more to buy as we are keeping our spaces for the most perfect pigments!

Thats all I have for you for now… sadly I don’t have any pictures to show you but I’ll be having much more fun with testing that I can show you in the future. I’ll keep you updated on some of the brilliant products we shall be using!

UMAe (United Makeup Artists Expo)

8 Apr

This weekend I took a trip to the United Makeup Artists Expo. in London.

This was kind of a smaller, less commercial version of the IMATS is promoted more towards makeup artists in particular. Whilst the variety in products available was much smaller and the demos were not as informative of differing from the ones I had seen at the IMATS, what I did enjoy was the fact that all the artists were much more talkative and I felt as ease to ask questions of anyone – even of those superstar idol makeup artists! It was great to really get to know more about these artists and I found a much more personal and alternate view of the industry could be found here.

It was thanks to Steven Murphy and PS Composities I was able to get hold of a free ticket! Otherwise I probably wouldn’t have been able to make it! The were doing some amazing sculpts and prosthetic pieces and it was really interesting to watch.

There were loads of body paints going on, however most not to my taste. However, I did like this one and although simple it gave me some great idas for pieces of my own!

Whilst I mention the smaller variety in products, PAM were there and they shall not be attending the IMATS! Sadly I did not have as much money as I would liked to have spend.. but when do we ever!

Another top brand to mention would be Ben NYE. Dana Nye even gave us a mix of samples to use following his presentation of a Demo by Helsinki Artist,  Miia Ollula (who was absolutely lovely!). I love the products of theirs I have tried but the presents he gave us as also fantastic. I’ll be doing a test and report post soon enough!

Overall I think it was a great event and will be back next year for sure, I think that next year it will be even better and there will be many more people. I’m also going to apply for the competition – I should have done so this year but didn’t think I was good enough. More confidence needed as I think I would have done well!
